Happy New Years Eve! Hope you are all doing something fun to celebrate. I'm helping my mom clean up the house because my brother and his family come tomorrow. Earlier this morning, we met up with some old friends of mine and their kids. Although I didn't get a group shot (and am SO mad that I didn't), here are some shots of the kids. We had a great time, although I was in a funk and probably brought down the whole mood! I think I'm just really tired, homesick for TX, and missing my hubby.

The Cabin
This afternoon, Will's parents, the kids, and I drove out to the Farmville area to see their log cabin. They've had it for a while now, but have done a ton of work on it since I last saw it. It was fun taking the kids for a look and quick hike. If you are in the Farmville area and need a place to stay, this is the place!

Blue Star Family Tree
My mom works at the Virginia War Memorial and the kids and I met up with her for lunch today. Before heading out, she showed us the Blue Star Family Tree. We got to see Will's ornament, which was really cool
The tree!
My favorite ornament.
Here's Will's ornament, next to his best friend from high school's ornament, as well as that friend's brother to the left.

Sunday
Happy Sunday! Hope everyone is doing well and if you were traveling back to your homes, I hope you are all safe! The kids and I are still in Richmond and will be here until we leave for Texas on the 5th. We are all doing really great!
I was able to speak with Will last night for almost 45 minutes and it was woooooooooonderful. We got all caught up from Christmas and he filled me in on Mosul. He thinks he will have is own room there, which is awesome! I think he may even have his own computer in his office (as soon as the current person vacates it) and I am very excited about that. At night, if he walks around the base, he can see the lights of the city of Mosul. Yesterday, he attended a memorial service for a doctor who was killed on Christmas day. It was difficult for him, even though he didn't know the person, because he knows his time is unfortunately coming to officiate at similar services. The battalion hasn't started their operations yet, but they are trained and ready when the time comes. I believe they are still waiting on the 3rd ACR to head back to the States before they fully take over. So Will is doing great! He bought a phone card and we (the family) have been adding minutes to it regularly. If you are interested in doing so as well, just email me and I'll give you the numbers. It is $18 for 50 international minutes. Hope that doesn't sound rude...there is NO pressure...just some of you have emailed me wanting to help with that. Since they are already in Mosul, we can go ahead and start sending mail and packages. For gift boxes (again, no pressure but some of you have asked), he hasn't given me a list of good things to send, but I would imagine these things would be good: toothpaste, deoderant, soap, shampoo, sunflower seeds, gum, good ground coffee (the kind they don't have there...like Starbucks or Ukrops for you Richmonders), hard candy, popcorn, and black pens. That's all I can think of right now. The next time he calls, I will ask him again and update the blog if necessary. Remember, whatever he cannot use, he can share with other soldiers who are in need. Continue to keep his soldiers in your prayers. Things are about to start up and these guys need our support.
As for the miscarriage, it's over and I am glad I do not have the anticipation anymore. The grief was so terrible when we heard there was no heartbeat, but considering the actual miscarriage began on Dec 24th, I am so thankful I was forewarned. I can only imagine how terrible our Christmas would have been if I had not known what was coming. The actual miscarriage was a lot more painful than I had imagined, but I made it through. I wish Will had been here but am glad we were able to chat via phone last night so I could fill him in. We are both still deeply saddened and already miss Campbell desperately. We long for what could have been and we are anxious to try again. Too bad we have to wait so long. That's been the real zinger in all of this. We can't just try again in a couple of months. We know God has a plan, but we are still grieving and moving through the emotions of anger, frustration, and the pain of such a loss. Each day brings new hope for healing and we are getting stronger by the hour. Will has already been able to witness to his fellow officers through this experience and I can't tell you how much peace that gives me. Right off the bat on his deployment, when it's critical to build trust and credibility, he's been an example of how a follower of Christ handles loss. Those around him have seen him cry, get angry, and be a real person hurting from a tragedy, but still praise God and rest confidently in His goodness. Now that is a testimony. I am so proud of him. So we are still grieving and we will for a while, but we know God is good. All the time.

Playdate
The kids and I went over to my friend, Allison's, parents' house for a playdate this morning. Her little girl, Hadleigh, is soooo adorable and sweet. I've known Allison since the 4th grade and we have a long history of friendship. There were several years where we tried to look like the other in elementary and middle school, even fixing our hair the same way. It was hysterical. Just before we left, another one of our old friends, Amy, showed up with her new baby boy, Brayden. He is SO precious. Amy's made a New Years resolution to start updating her blog - finally, Amy!! ;)

Uncle John
While we have been here in Richmond, I have witnessed all of our family members go out of their way to be a huge help to me by taking care of the children. Both sets of our parents have been absolutely fabulous (seriously, I've barely lifted a finger), as have Will's paternal grandmother, sister, brother-in-law, aunt, and uncle. I am so grateful and I know that when we see Will's maternal grandmother, my brother, and my sister-in-law, they will also be so helpful. I am blessed beyond measure.
However, this blog post is for one in particular - UNCLE JOHN! John is Will's little brother - excuse me, I should say "younger" since he's not so little anymore. I have known John since he was a little boy and distinctly remember eating lunch with him at his elementary school. Now he's all grown up and in college - how did that happen? Tonight, during some pre-dinner and post-dinner activities, he kindly played with the kids and kept them occupied for me. Not only was that a big help, but he did a wonderful job and we heard lots of giggles coming from the porch from both kids. Thanks so much, Uncle John...or Uncle Don or Mr. John...as Carlee Scott has been known to call you!

Safe in Mosul
Update! I got an email from Will that said he made it safely to Mosul. YES! I don't have any details yet but I wanted to let everyone know he made it!

The Pictures (lots of them)
Here we go - TONS of pictures. I only posted a small portion of all I took over the past two days, so you can only imagine how many are on my camera! I hope you all don't mind such a huge picture-post. Will was able to check the blog (finally) last night so I am hopeful that he will get to again. I know he's dying to see all these Christmas pictures! While I am thinking about it, I want to say thank you to my parents, Will's parents, and all the extended family for helping my kids open presents so that I could capture some of them on camera.
Being sweet with cousin Alley.
Rockin' with Uncle Andy.

It was an adorable little doll-size table and chair set, with something special painted inside from Mimi and Papa.
